Dive into red-nosed clowning with Elena Day!
This course will focus on the joyful intensity of playing. Through a series of games, exercises and observations, you will discover your brand of funny, and learn to share it directly with the audience. With the body as your guide, you will analyze your ways of moving and create your ‘clown form.’ Playing with and through this form, your clown will arrive vibrant, unique and funny!
Elena day trained at L’Ecole Jacques Lecoq and is influenced by the work of clown pedagogue and movement artist Giovanni Fusetti. Elena has appeared as multiple characters with Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba in Florida and Cirque Mechanics in Nevada, but she is based in DC and performs locally with companies like Happenstance Theater.
Early bird registration is $275. After January 15th, the course is $325. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.

What do you get when you cross Marcel Marceau and Anna Pavlova? Answer: Karen Montanaro – The Aragon Herold-Spain
This workshop explores movement as a universal language; a way of communicating with an audience and also a way of communicating with oneself. Movement is visible, whereas the experience of moving is invisible. In this way, movement may be used to integrate ourselves — to harmonize our public and private sides so that the inner world of experience and the outer world of expression work optimally together.
Ultimately, this workshop is about knowing what you want to convey, sensing what your audience “sees” and bringing the two together with eloquence and personal style.
Karen is a solo performer, an award-winning choreographer, and the innovator of “mimedance” (the fusion of two classical art forms). Karen studied ballet at the Cantarella School of Dance, the Ram Island Dance Center and on scholarship with the Joffrey Ballet School. She danced professionally with the Ohio Ballet and the Darmstadt Opera Ballet in Germany. Upon moving back to the Unites States, Karen also danced principal roles with the Portland Ballet Company. For more than a decade, Karen toured and taught internationally with mime master, Tony Montanaro. She currently tours the world with her one-woman show entitled “Tanzspiel.”
Ms. Montanaro is a teaching artist and offers residencies in movement, mime and dance in public and private schools throughout the United States. www.mimedance.com

About the artist:
Christian Kloc learned to juggle at age six after seeing the Flying Karamazov Brothers perform. What started as a basic trick became an obsession. Christian grew up attending juggling festivals across the country and performing at local events. After 23 years, he is still surprised and amazed by the power of that ‘basic trick’ to change lives and cause spontaneous outbursts of fun in the world.
Christian has taught juggling classes at the Trapeze School of New York – D.C. for the past two years. He has performed in circus productions at the Atlas Theatre, SAX Lounge and as part of the Art All Night celebration. Since 2015, he and his friends have been working on their urban photography project Street Light Circus to bring contemporary circus to the District through exhibits, workshops and online collaborations.
Sundays, monthly (9/17, 10/15, 11/26 and 12/10) @ 1-2 p.m.

Ages 16+ (Drop-ins are allowed, but we recommend that students sign up for all class times since material is cumulative.) Not sure if this class is for you? Injuries and weakness can impede your progression as an aerialist/acrobat so prevention and knowledge are ideal ways to keep you in the studio and inspired!
Angie Prescott PT, DPT, CMPT, CSCS has over 20 years experience in gymnastics and acrobatics and has been in the field of rehabilitation, physical therapy and sports medicine for 13 years. Her love of acrobatics and aerials has led her to become a specialist in the injuries that these athletes commonly see. Owner of ACRO Physical Therapy & Fitness, her goal is to “inspire individuality” by providing evidence-based treatment and information so that her patients and clients can pursue their life and fitness goals without limitation or pain.
In this seminar, Angie will be discussing the core, upper back and shoulders. Participants will be given an overview of basic anatomy, normal function and common injuries that an aerialist/acrobat needs to watch out for. Beyond that – the class involves significant audience participation as there will be a strengthening and stretching program reviewed and provided with the goal of minimizing your injury risk and progressing your training.
