Maryland Renaissance Festival — Pirate Weekend

Gallivant about the magical realms of the Maryland Renaissance Festival, where visitors can delight in live circus, sideshow, theater and musical acts, alongside jousting demonstrations, food stalls, costume shops and artisan vendors. The setting? The village of Revel Grove (aka Annapolis, Md.) amidst the reign of Henry the VIII during his marriage to Anne Boleyn. Get lost in the 1530s and let history come to life!

This weekend only, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite pirate costume, and will be treated to music by The Pyrates Royale, The Crimson Pirates, Scales & Crosstones and the Rambling Sailors!

Kids younger than 7 years get in for free throughout the festival’s run. Gates open at 10 a.m., festival closes at 7 p.m.

Comprehensive 1 Program: Neutral Mask 9/24-12/10

This 12-week class lays the foundation for all courses at the Center for Movement Theatre. Taught by movement coach extraordinaire Dody DiSanto, this class enables performers of all genres to find freedom, awareness and expression in their performances. The neutral mask allows you to access the faces we hold in common in addition to your imagined and true selves. Actors, singers, dancers, clowns and circus performers will find deeper connections to their audiences and their own premise for performing during this in-depth course. Class runs Tuesdays from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. from September 24th to December 10th.

Camp Juggle Monster Lake with The London Broil

Spend a fun and enlightening evening with the three merry members of the comedic troupe The London Broil Show (also performing at the Renaissance Festival) at the beautiful Benfield Sportscenter for the fourth annual Camp Juggle Monster Lake, a relaxed gathering of jugglers to throw tricks, tell jokes, learn from each other and eat plenty of snacks. This event is free, but donations are accepted.

DC Burlesque Breakfast Club: Yolks on You!

Enjoy your omelette with a side of sultry comedy and campy humor at the DC Burlesque Breakfast Club. This ‘Yolks on You!’ edition features spooky songs about monsters by Dr. Dour and Peach, pole acrobatics by Ricky Phoenix, and many more acts of drag, burlesque and roller skating. Doors open at noon, show starts at 1 p.m.

Puppet Slamwich + Charming Disaster

Behold this regular lineup of fantastical puppetry shorts and performance acts accompanied by musical guest Charming Disaster. This show has been in business since 2010, featuring the greatest local puppetry artists doing what they do best. Showtimes at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

DC Weirdo Show: Weirdos for Life!

Join the most weird and wonderful cast of the DC Weirdo Show for Weirdos for Life: A Fundraiser for Trans Lifeline, featuring acts of drag, comedy, music, burlesque, fire, dance and more! Proceeds benefit the Trans Lifeline, which provides peer and legal support for the trans population. Doors open at 8 p.m. for a 9 p.m. show.

Juggle Jam @ CHAW

Join experienced juggler Christian Kloc for this fun and engaging workshop/performance at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. The class begins with a brief demo, then gets juggling props into your hands and concludes with a collaborative performance, putting your newfound circus talents in the center ring! All ages and skill levels are welcome. Cost is a $5 suggested donation.

Sunset & Chill @ Bardo Brewing

The chillest fire jam is back in action at Bardo Brewing in Southeast! Get your fix of fire manipulation, dancing and good vibes from 6-11 p.m. This gathering often includes live DJs, vendors and a pre-fire jam yoga class, so keep your eye on the schedule for the latest chill updates.

Essential Tease: Burlesque Showcase

Visit Baltimore’s Creative Alliance to see a showcase featuring students who have spent eight weeks honing their burlesque acts with veterans of the trade. This show is a body-positive celebration of mindfulness, emotion and physical comedy that is not to be missed.
