Cirkus Cirkör: Limits

March 6th-9th @ 8 p.m.

In Limits, Cirkus Cirkör examines how artificial barriers — walls, fences and barricades — constrain our natural human impulses to travel and to explore. Take home your own unbounded message from what reviewers call ‘contemporary circus activism.’ This is the only opportunity to see the renowned Swedish circus company in the United States in 2019.

Physical Comedy Workshop Series

January 28th – March 11th @ Monday evenings 6:45 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.

(No class on February 18th)

In this six-class workshops series, you will explore the physical techniques that support comic performance, with exercises in stillness, reaction, mimetic gesture, physical characterization, status, clown and much more. Mark draws on his training with Étienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau. Sabrina draws on her training in the LeCoq pedagogy with concentration in the realm of the theatrical clown. Their complementary approaches combine to address both nuts-and-bolts technical skills and more elusive issues of honesty, presence and accessibility.

Taught by Mark Jaster and Sabrina Mandell, artistic co-directors of the award winning ensemble Happenstance Theater.

Sunset & Chill @ Catharsis on the Mall

November 9th @ 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Check out the hottest (literally and figuratively) regular fire jam in DC, this time in the heart of the nation’s capital! Performing on the opening night of ‘Catharsis — A Vigil for Healing,’ Sunset & Chill offers local fire spinners the opportunity to jam to local DJs while getting their flame on.

The jam will take place at ‘Love Wins’ stage on the north side of the Washington Monument. If you use the entrance just north of the monument walkway, turn left to find the stage.

Fire spinners MUST sign up in advance for this event, and pay particular attention to the rules and regulations of spinning fire on the mall to ensure that this can happen again in the future. To register for the limited number of fire spinning spots, fill out this form. Fire breathing or spinning with long props like jump ropes or whips is strictly prohibited. And unlike Sunset & Chill at the Olde City Farm & Garden, alcohol is not permitted at any Catharsis events.

For more information about Sunset & Chill, visit the Facebook event page. For more information about Catharsis on the Mall (November 9th-11th), visit the event website.
